CLEMENS FRISCHENSCHLAGER (b. 1970 in Salzburg, Austria and graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, lives in New York)

An abstract minimalist, Clemens Frischenschlager was trained at the Vienna Academy and decided to move to New York, joining the artistic community in Williamsburg.

Believing in light and texture and the interplay of the two, Frischenschlager’s works  are part of a fascinating journey to understand what makes art and what visual interplay there can be between art and the world. In his recent series Text and Textures, he integrates text into his work to explore how consumers absorb and interpret information in today’s media-rich environment.

Frischenschlager has exhibited widely including his giant tapestry, Fire Oven (2008)

at the Palais Liechtenstein; his acrylic works at Galerie DECK, Stuttgart, Galerie Andreas Engler, and even more permanently at the European Headquarters of the Anti-Defamation League (through the The Ronald S. Lauder Foundation).

He has won various awards including the Theodor Körner Prize (1996), the National Endowment for the Arts and Sciences for Austria (1995, the Master Class Award (Meisterschulpreis) at Academy of Fine Arts, (Vienna, 1994) and the  First Prize and Scholarship from the Karl Anton Wolf Foundation (Vienna, 1991), the  Golden Füger Medal, Academy of Fine Arts (Vienna, 1990)  and the Silver Füger at the same academy.
