JIVKO (b. in 1963 in Bulgaria, lives and works in France)

ivko is a French sculptor with an exceptional talent for transforming bees’ wax under his fingers into butterflies and feathers series, later casted in Bronze, which are praised for their weightless quality.

He is known as well for revisiting mythological figures, half-animal half-humans, and mastering disequilibrium and a combination of emptiness and mass to create lightness and infuse light into stronger Bronze pieces.

A graduate of the Beaux Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria (1985), he also attended the Prague Beaux Arts (1985-90) as well as the Paris Beaux Arts (1990-93). He is also the recipient of many prizes, including the 1993 Pierre Auguste Renoir’s Prize and artist residency at Renoir’s workplace, first Prize Susse Frères Fondeurs (1993), first Prize Crédit Lyonnais (1993), first Prize Sculpture, French Ministry of Finance (1994), first Prize Charles Oulmont of the Foundation of France (1995) and won in 2013 the commission sculpture for ENA School in Strasbourg, France and in 2016 the P. Messmer sculpture in Sarrebourg.
